Five on Friday

1.) Back when we bought our couch, God saw through a crystal ball that 2 years later an entire glass of red wine would get spilled on it, so we bought the protection plan that they offered. The protection plan covers for your furniture to be cleaned or replaced depending on the stain. Really all of this to say that we may be in the market for new living room furniture. I am going for functional/comfortable over pretty this time and think a slipcovered sofa seems like the most logical. It is truly amazing what children can do to furniture!

2.) We are obsessed. I used to hate sparkling water but I guess when your only option is water, it's nice to have something break up the monotony.

3.) Now that the holidays are over and the initial shock of a rehabs price tag is over, we are slowly but surely trying to decorate this little space of ours. First order of business- a runner for the hallway. One downfall of hardwood everywhere is it feels so cold in here. I am hoping some rugs and curtains will warm it up a bit.

4.) Were truer words ever spoken?

5.) Our next major project at the house is the exterior. While I would love for it to be the bathrooms, we feel that a little curb appeal would be appreciated by the neighbors. Along with landscaping, I would like to paint the brick. Im torn between these two color schemes but really leaning towards the second.

Happy weekend!

Thoughts for Thursday

How is this little girl 3 months old already? She has started really coming into her personality and it has been a blast watching her grow. I've been posting weekly pictures on Instagram (amybr123) and its such a fun way to see how much they change in that first year.

We started a Whole30 in our house on January 2nd. After a few days of feeling groggy and miserable, I have turned the corner and I feel great. It has helped with my energy levels ten fold. Its just the detox I need after the craziest 6 months ever. Plus Harrison has eaten more vegetables in the last 2 days than he has in the last 2 months. win win. I'll update more on our experience as it progresses.

One of my goals here recently is to get better behind the camera. Really for no reason but to have good pictures of the kids. I snapped a few Christmas pictures and I am really pleased with how they turned out.

A new year. My main goal this year is to live in the present. On my phone less and on the floor playing with the kids more. 2015 is a year to make memories.

Five on Friday

:one:

I am having the hardest time finding matching pjs for the kids that I like. Having one in itty bitty sizes and one in toddler sizes makes it hard. The itty bitty is the challenging part. This Bailey Boys set is currently the front runner.

:two:

This past weekend we went and picked out our Christmas tree. Harrison loved running around the lot and touching all of the trees. In the end we settled on this one. I will be shopping the after Christmas sales this year to buy some non breakable ornaments. Only the top half of our tree is decorated.

:three:
house reno sneak peek

We finished the house RIGHT before Leighton was born. Here is a sneak peek of the finished product. Since this picture was taken, things have been hung on the walls but that is about it. We desperately needs more furniture and it needs to be decorated but truth be told, thats not happening any time soon. Baby steps.

... and just a reminder of what it looked like before....

:four:
is anyone else listening to this? I'm hooked. So excited there is going to be a season 2.

:five:
tummy time woes. This girl sleeps right through tummy time. Im not sure she will ever roll over at this point. I mean, surely she won't go to kindergarten with out being able to hold her head up... right?

is this thing on?

well hello. its been a while. and while I have been gone, life got so much sweeter.

On October 6th, we welcomed our baby girl, Leighton McCarron to our family. Adjusting to a family of 4 has been such a fun ride and we couldn't feel more blessed.

First Haircut

We took the plunge and had Harrison's hair cut. I don't know who it was harder on... me or him. I officially embarrassed myself and we will have to find a new children's salon to bring the next one too. There were tears was ugly crying involved. It was an unusual reaction but I think it was just another reminder as to how fast life goes on. Don't even get me started on this article. If I thought a haircut was rough, that will be a bad day in slippery rock!

Thinking this is kind of cool.

Where did you take me?!

This may have been after I asked if the curls ever come back.... and with a black soul she didn't even sugar coat it. No. more tears.

and the final product. My little man baby.

And just because I know there will come a day when he refuses to dry off with an elephant towel.

domino effect

In order to save some money while remodeling, instead of hiring a remodeling company to come in and just overhaul the place; I have been acting as a subcontractor of sorts. I broke down each thing on my wish list and went to Angie's List and personal references to gather 3 companies for each trade to bid out the job. I have learned that not only is this job very time consuming but takes a lot of patience. It took 2 bids from a remodeling company for us to quickly discover we just simply couldn't afford the one stop shop approach. So, the dollar sign is what keeps me motivated to live in this constant state of chaos and clutter.

When contracting out various steps in the process, you learn how quickly things get backed up. For instance, the wall coming down has to happen before steps 2, 3 and 4 can happen. The beam being used to support the structure of the house has to be custom made so we are just waiting for that to be finished. Unfortunately, it is looking to be about 2 weeks behind schedule but oh well what can you do.

I have filled my time with finalizing the little details so that when the time comes, we are ready to go!

My mom comes in town tomorrow to help with painting and such and the new windows are en route. Heres hoping that next week, I have some progress shots to show you!
