Five on Friday

I am having the hardest time finding matching pjs for the kids that I like. Having one in itty bitty sizes and one in toddler sizes makes it hard. The itty bitty is the challenging part. This Bailey Boys set is currently the front runner.

This past weekend we went and picked out our Christmas tree. Harrison loved running around the lot and touching all of the trees. In the end we settled on this one. I will be shopping the after Christmas sales this year to buy some non breakable ornaments. Only the top half of our tree is decorated.

house reno sneak peek

We finished the house RIGHT before Leighton was born. Here is a sneak peek of the finished product. Since this picture was taken, things have been hung on the walls but that is about it. We desperately needs more furniture and it needs to be decorated but truth be told, thats not happening any time soon. Baby steps.

... and just a reminder of what it looked like before....

is anyone else listening to this? I'm hooked. So excited there is going to be a season 2.

tummy time woes. This girl sleeps right through tummy time. Im not sure she will ever roll over at this point. I mean, surely she won't go to kindergarten with out being able to hold her head up... right?

is this thing on?

well hello. its been a while. and while I have been gone, life got so much sweeter.

On October 6th, we welcomed our baby girl, Leighton McCarron to our family. Adjusting to a family of 4 has been such a fun ride and we couldn't feel more blessed.

First Haircut

We took the plunge and had Harrison's hair cut. I don't know who it was harder on... me or him. I officially embarrassed myself and we will have to find a new children's salon to bring the next one too. There were tears was ugly crying involved. It was an unusual reaction but I think it was just another reminder as to how fast life goes on. Don't even get me started on this article. If I thought a haircut was rough, that will be a bad day in slippery rock!

Thinking this is kind of cool.

Where did you take me?!

This may have been after I asked if the curls ever come back.... and with a black soul she didn't even sugar coat it. No. more tears.

and the final product. My little man baby.

And just because I know there will come a day when he refuses to dry off with an elephant towel.

domino effect

In order to save some money while remodeling, instead of hiring a remodeling company to come in and just overhaul the place; I have been acting as a subcontractor of sorts. I broke down each thing on my wish list and went to Angie's List and personal references to gather 3 companies for each trade to bid out the job. I have learned that not only is this job very time consuming but takes a lot of patience. It took 2 bids from a remodeling company for us to quickly discover we just simply couldn't afford the one stop shop approach. So, the dollar sign is what keeps me motivated to live in this constant state of chaos and clutter.

When contracting out various steps in the process, you learn how quickly things get backed up. For instance, the wall coming down has to happen before steps 2, 3 and 4 can happen. The beam being used to support the structure of the house has to be custom made so we are just waiting for that to be finished. Unfortunately, it is looking to be about 2 weeks behind schedule but oh well what can you do.

I have filled my time with finalizing the little details so that when the time comes, we are ready to go!

My mom comes in town tomorrow to help with painting and such and the new windows are en route. Heres hoping that next week, I have some progress shots to show you!

New House Tour -The Before.

Before we got any further in the renovations I wanted to make sure I put up pictures of the house as we saw it the day we signed the papers. I look at these pictures and I still think we are crazy for taking the plunge but whats life without a little adventure, right?

Hall Bath (lovingly referred to as the brown bath)

To Do list for in here:

The Bathrooms are part of Phase 2. I so badly wanted to have it done before the second baby comes but I just don't think I can take on any more construction right now and this is a big project.

Old Den/New Dining Room
The way the house was set up before, this was the den right off the kitchen. The problem being, its too small to really fit any furniture in here and have it be a functional space. Also, the house isn't that big... we don't have a need for back to back sitting areas.

To do list for in here:
Replace paneling with sheetrock
Light Fixture
New floors and trim

I think to call it a foyer is a bit ambitious but here is the entry way, nonetheless.

To do list:
New doors

Unfortunately, the exterior needs just as much work. The good thing is, its workable and nothing that a little TLC and elbow grease can't fix. We moved into a clay pad with not even a blade of grass at the last place so I am confident we can do a little something to this space.

To do list:
Paint Exterior
Remove that gorgeous awning
Make the deck less of a death trap

The exterior is Phase 3. Some things need to happen quickly, like the hazardous deck but other than that... we aren't living on the porch so a lot of that can wait.

Harrison's Room
I have shown pictures of this room already and luckily as of right now, we are 1 room down in the peach/cream paint battle.

This is the only picture I took of this room by accident. Truth be told, we got very lucky with the kitchen. It had been updated shortly after Katrina making it the newest thing in the house. Knowing how expensive kitchen remodels are....this was one of the biggest selling features of the home.

To do list:
Paint cabinets

Living Room
So i wasn't kidding about the back to back sitting areas... that wall is what separates the living room and the den. It really chops up the whole living area of the house so we have decided to do away with that wall. Considering it is load bearing, it has been a bit harder than we had originally planned for but I know when it is finished, we are going to be so happy we went ahead and did it.

The plan is for the main wall and overhang immediately to the right of it to be replaced with a beam in the attic making it flush with the ceiling. We are also removing the entry way overhang from the dining room into the area and that tiny little bit of wall there as well.

to do list:
Paint (trying out BM Revere Pewter there on the wall)
oh and maybe replace the gold light switch plates.

Master Bedroom
I don't even know what to say. En Suites weren't exactly the thing to do in the 50s. The master is small and certainly different from what we came from but like everything else workable.

To do:
Possible barn doors for the closet and bathroom door since

The small brown bath. Another gut job.

Pretty much same to do list as Harrison's room.

Old Dining Room

This space is what used to be the dining room. With the wall down and the dining room now in the den.. it will just mesh in with the living area.  Since this picture was taken, the mirror has been removed. Thank the good Lord.

We have our work cut out for us. And about 9 weeks to do it. I think doing this so close to baby is a blessing and a curse. A curse for obvious reasons but blessing because it forces us to really go elbows and a**holes while 1 baby is resting away on the inside.

I am extremely anal a list person and we are working off of a timeline that puts us finished with Phase 1 (which is pretty much everything but bathrooms and exterior) right at full term status of baby #2. Wish us luck :)

Harrison's 1 year Pictures

We had Harrison's 1 year pictures taken the weekend before his actual birthday. 6 weeks later as I look at these pictures... I am shocked at how much more he has grown even in this short time. He had just started to walk and now he runs. It truly blows my mind how fast they grow .... about that pause button all of us moms talk about....

disclaimer- this is tacky but all I have digitally is the copyrighted images. We ordered a ton of prints but I wanted to have a reminder of these sweet cheeks in digital form God forbid something were to happen to the printed.
